Charge: Cottage Grove guy killed wife at night online murder plot

Bail had been set at $1 million Wednesday for a Cottage Grove guy whom authorities connected to a complex dark web plot to cover their wife’s murder before he fundamentally poisoned and shot her himself and staged her death as committing committing suicide.

Stephen Carl Allwine, 43, had been faced with second-degree deliberate murder in the Nov. 13, 2016, loss of their wife, Amy Louise Allwine, 43, at their 110th Street house. He showed up Wednesday for a quick appearance that is first Washington County District Court. He could be being held in Washington County jail.

District Court Judge Susan Miles set Allwine’s bail at $1 million without conditions or $500,000 with conditions, including if he posts bail, remain in Minnesota and have only supervised contact with the Allwines’ 9-year-old son that he wear a GPS tracking device.

Allwine’s lawyer, Kevin DeVore, desired a diminished bail which he stated their customer could manage. Working together with Allwine may well be more difficult if he could be in prison, DeVore stated.

“This is just a case that is complicated” he told Miles.

Fred Fink, criminal unit chief when it comes to Washington County Attorney’s workplace, had required a $2 million bail because he said circumstances recommend Allwine is a trip risk. Fink stated Allwine gets the funds to flee and recently liquidated silver coins for money.

Fink also referenced the elegance involved with Allwine’s so-called actions, saying it “appears become an absolute dedication to destroy this girl.”
